When President George H. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) into law, he hailed it as a landmark piece of legislation that would open many “once-closed” doors for individuals with disabilities. One of the ADA’s most noticeable features is that in addition to prohibiting employers from firing and failing to hire individuals with disabilities, it places an affirmative obligation on employers to accommodate an employee’s or a candidate’s disability; however, because the ADA defines “disability” in three ways, a question arose
